My journey for the new refrigerator began about a year ago. The goal was to have a new fridge before the housewarming, which was last October. So I dug the internet and searched, and searched, and searched. I was drowning in the different options; bottom freezer, top freezer, side freezer, counter depth, regular size, door-inside-the-door…. arggh! Where do I start?
Well two things I knew for sure: 1. I wanted a side-by-side and 2. I wanted stainless steel. After digging a little deeper, I also decided that I wanted to have a counter depth fridge because I didn’t like the look of the regular sized refrigerators sticking out too much into the kitchen. Oh! and it had to be around $1000.
Now, I know that you can find great deals in the scratch and dent stores, but I’ve never had a fancy fridge, so I wanted it to be brand new.
At first I went with Frigidaire Gallery FGHC2331PF 22 cu. ft. which I ordered online at Sears without ever seeing it in person. But then we were walking through Home Depot and I saw that model next to Whirlpool WRS571CIDM. I liked the Whirlpool so much better, even though it is technically smaller by more than a cubic foot. But it had higher quality drawers and shelves, nicer lights inside, nicer water dispenser, and everything about it felt neater and better.
So I called Sears to cancel, and an interesting thing happened, they offered me a $100 discount if I kept it. I refused. So they offered me $200. I refused. So they offered me $300. I had to pause and think, because that would make the fridge only $900 after taxes… but I still refused.
I went online to Lowe’s and placed an order for the Whirlpool. In the end it was $1380 with delivery and installation after a 10% discount. Yes, it is more expensive, but it is also, so much prettier. And I did get it just in time for the housewarming.
After reading reviews, I was concerned about the available storage space, but honestly, for the two people, and even for parties, I’ve never had an issue with the storage. I do have to cut my baguettes in half, though, to make them fit, but that’s a struggle I am willing to deal with. 🙂 And when we get ready to remodel the kitchen, I think the refrigerator will fit very nicely.
P.S. This is not a sponsored post. Although I wish it was! Hey Lowe’s, Whirlpool, Sears, or Frigidaire, if y’all are reading this, I’m in the market for a new dishwasher, and washing machine, and dryer, and a new kitchen faucet wouldn’t hurt…. 🙂 I promise to blog about it!
