La fin de downstairs

I can’t believe it, but we finally finished the downstairs. Well, not really finished, and we are only just beginning. But hey, after nine months of “naked” walls downstairs, they finally got some color up! In that time my body could have already made a little human and all we had accomplished is plaster and paint some walls! Well, I’ve already mentioned the pains of plastering the walls in my first bedroom post, but I will write a detailed post about the process later (in case you are crazy enough to do it yourself). Considering that we were plastering virgins, I have to say we learned a great deal about the process and what works best and what does not. But a small plastering tip preview now: it won’t be perfect! No matter how hard you try and how much time you spend, the wall will not be perfectly flat! I think the only way to achieve that is to put up brand new dry wall, something we weren’t ready to do because it would also require to get new baseboard and crown molding.

Anyways, now comes the fun part of decorating.

A few things on  my wish lift for the Living/Dining area downstairs:

Fiddle leaf fig to put by the TV. I keep seeing them in all the catalogs, blogs, and of course YHL. I like this one (taken from here):

Fiddle Fig Tree

(There are a few spots on the ceiling that need to be touched up with paint, this will be taken care of).

I also really like this x-base table from Pier 1, and it can be expanded to seat 8 ppl.

Pier 1 Dining Table

I am also starting to doubt the Ikea shelf next to the table. It fits there perfectly and provides great storage, but just looks a bit busy. Maybe I’ll play with making it look like a wine cellar or something. (Sorry for the old iPhone photo and mean looking cats, haha, they were confused).

Living Room

We also need a pretty big rug for downstairs (about 9′ x 12′), so I am having a hard time deciding what would look best and will survive 2 kitties. I’ll need to check out a few options in person before I feel comfortable ordering one online).

Here are a few I like from Overstock:

Rug 2

Rug 2

Also am looking at this lamp from Overstock:

These are a few big pieces I am considering now. Once that is finalized, the smaller stuff will be worked in as well, like one or two smaller lamps, entry bookshelf or a small table, 1 or 2 side tables. Honestly, I don’t know yet.

So what are your thoughts? Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks, I like it too! I am just worried it might be too dark since we have a dark brown couch. arghhh! decidions-decisions :)

I'm so late on this :))) I like rug #1 too, but the more i look at the second one, the more I like it. I guess it's less expected hehe. Love the fig - Almost fooled me with that one :D

Haha, I found another rug at home goods, if it's still there today after work, will pick it up :).
You approve of my photoshopping, and by photoshopping, I mean word background removing, skills? :)))
I actually already have the lamp and the fig, but not the pot for the fig, Dmitry wants exactly that one....

Hm, maybe not on the rug. Saw it at Home goods on Sunday and went to get it today and someone already bought it :(. I guess I shall keep looking...
