Can you believe we’re only 11 days away from Christmas Eve? I had to double check the calendar to make sure I was not crazy.
Hope you’ve finished your holiday shopping, I know I haven’t. Thank goodness for the 2-day shipping with Amazon Prime.
Work has been crazy busy the last couple of months. We finally put up our Christmas tree this past weekend. In fact we had to get a new one, because our white Christmas tree, after serving us for 4 years, had finally turned yellow. So I decided to change it up and got a green tree instead.
Sometimes it pays to wait, the $99 tree was 50% off on Sunday at WalMart, and that made me happy. (If you’re curious, we got the T-28 model and it was the last one in our store.)
For a cost of one real tree, that took years to grow, I have something that is easy to manage, looks beautiful, is more environmentally friendly, and costs much less.
Inspired by my visit to Mark Twaine’s house in Hartford, CT, and Ada Vanderbilt’s house in Newport, RI over Thanksgiving, I wanted a touch of traditional to my decor, but the garlands I found were all pretty pricey, so of course I decided to make my own. I found a 15 foot blank garland at the dollar store along with poinsettias and glittery balls. All I needed was 5 minutes and a hot glue gun and voila!
It would be lovely to have poinsettias on the stair landing, but sometimes you have to give up looks for practicality because I can guarantee one of two things would happen: either Dmitry or I trip over it, or my cats knock it down during one of their late night runs.
I also don’t like buying too much stuff that’s just going to sit there for 11 of the 12 months, taking up space, collecting dust… So I try to limit my spading to small things.
I splurged a bit on new tree ornaments that I got at Crate & Barrel. I ♥ how everything came out in the end and that’s all that matters. 🙂
Oops, the board is missing a festive Christmas greeting. I need to recruit my friend at Luscious Lettering to create something beautiful.
If we don’t meet before the holidays, I hope you have a wonderful time with your family and loved ones! JOY TO THE WORLD!
