When I got the console table, I was puzzled with how I should style it. So I asked my friends and readers for advice here using badly photoshopped images as idea starters. My original inclining was to go with some sort of a mirror or a set of mirrors, but everyone voted on a blackboard instead. I have to say I was shocked, since this is the image I started with (it’s sloppy!).
Going against my original instincts of using the mirrors, I thought I would give the chalkboard a chance. After searching several stores for the perfect size and not finding it, I decided to make my own. Home Depot sells chalk board slabs for $10. Dmitry cut it to the perfect size for me. I also grabbed some wood trim to make the frame. And the frame paint came from Target.
I am glad I went with the advice, because I love it! I love that I can personalize the message for any occasion and who wants to see themselves eating in the mirror anyhow? Some of my friends also seem to enjoy the chalkboard for their creative outlet of inappropriate messages (we’ll avoid details on this one, you know who you are!) 🙂
I’ve already used the chalkboard twice. First, for a “Thank you, grab a favor” message during my housewarming. And today I decided that although it’s still warm outside, October is almost over, so I should “fallify” the console a bit. I didn’t buy any new decorations and just went with what I already had.
Btw, I kept the DIY Herringbone clock on this wall, because it hides the light switch for the dining chandelier. Since we don’t use the light often it remains hidden, but is easy to get to when needed.
