Last weekend was spent in Austin for my friend’s birthday. Originally I intended to fit all the pictures/memories into one post, but after looking through the photos decided that Blue Cat Cafe deserves its’ own glory moment.
We’ve heard of cat cafes before, but we had never been to one. We intended for it to be our lunch spot, but when we got to the cafe, their grill was broken, so we ended up filling up on some tea and coffee (don’t worry, we went to Salt Lick BBQ afterwards, which filled our tummies plenty, but more on that next time.)
There is a $3 per person “kitty fee” and their coffees and teas are plenty and large. Oh, and there are cats, duh! Looking at Yelp, some were disappointed that there are not more cats, or that the kitties are not more affectionate. I am not sure where these people get their Cat PhD, but I thought there were plenty of kitties, just enough, and they were super well behaved. Actually I was amazed that there weren’t any cat fights, every one was super chill. Cats are usually territorial.
The cafe also has outdoor sitting, but the only cats outside are the graffiti ones (which are kind of scary looking, I guess keeping Austin weird.)
Inside the kitties have plenty of food (unlike humans that day) and water and cool places to lounge. Most kitties are adoptable and kitty gear is for sale benefiting Austin Humane Society and the Blue Cat Foundation.
There are also lint rollers everywhere for you to clean yourself after a puss might have fallen asleep on your lap. I definitely would not recommend wearing black.
